You Book redRail Tickets With Your IRCTC Account

redRail is the train booking service from redBus, which belongs to MakeMyTrip, and it's an IRCTC authorised partner. You still need your own IRCTC account to book: you sign in with your IRCTC user ID and confirm each booking with your IRCTC password.

Your ticket then arrives by email and SMS. PNR status and live train running status are available on the website and in the app.

Tatkal Bookings

redRail supports Tatkal, with up to 4 tickets per PNR. Booking opens at 10 AM for AC classes and 11 AM for non AC classes, one day before the journey.

Tatkal needs an Aadhaar linked IRCTC account and an Aadhaar OTP, so sort that out well before the window opens. Confirmed Tatkal tickets aren't refunded if you cancel.

Cancellations, Refunds and Fees

You cancel from My Bookings, for the whole booking or only some passengers, but you can't modify a booking on redRail. Once the train chart is prepared, cancelling no longer gets you a refund, and refunds otherwise take 5 to 7 days.

The agent fee, the IRCTC convenience fee and the Free Cancellation fee aren't refunded when you cancel. Keep that in mind when a discount looks large next to a cheap ticket, since those fees stay paid either way.

Free Cancellation and Alternate Trip

On selected trains and classes, redRail sells a Free Cancellation add on for a small fee. You have to choose it while booking, not later, and cancel before the chart is prepared to avoid IRCTC's cancellation charges.

Alternate Trip is a separate feature for fully waitlisted tickets: redRail says you get three times the refund value to book another train or bus on redBus. Treat it as rebooking credit rather than cash back to you.
