Courses Coupons: 34 Verified Brands | Oct 2026

Most people who start a free online course never finish it. A 2019 study in the journal Science by researchers at MIT and Harvard found that only about 3% of learners who started edX courses in 2017 and 2018 completed them, which is why choosing a course you will actually finish matters more than its price.

Marketplace or university platform?

Marketplaces such as Udemy and Skillshare host courses made by independent instructors, so quality varies from course to course. University platforms such as Coursera and edX host courses from universities and companies, often with graded assignments and structured schedules.

For a practical skill, a well reviewed marketplace course is often enough. For credentials that employers recognize, university and industry partner programs carry more weight.

Can you learn for free?

Many Coursera and edX courses can be audited for free, giving access to the videos and readings without graded work or a certificate. Paying unlocks assignments, feedback and a certificate.

Try the free version first. If you finish the first few weeks, paying for the certificate is a better bet.

Subscription or pay per course?

Subscriptions such as Coursera Plus, Skillshare and Pluralsight give access to a whole catalog for a monthly or annual fee. They suit people who take several courses a year, while buying single courses on Udemy suits a specific, one off need.

Udemy courses are frequently discounted, so a full price Udemy course is rarely necessary.

How to pick a good course

Check the instructor's background, recent reviews and when the course was last updated. For fast changing subjects such as programming and marketing tools, an outdated course can teach methods that no longer work.

Watch preview lessons to check the teaching style suits you, and look at the syllabus to confirm it covers what you need.

Learning to code

Interactive platforms such as Codecademy, DataCamp and Educative let you write code in the browser as you learn, which helps skills stick. Building your own small projects alongside a course is the best way to prove what you have learned to employers.

Exam preparation courses

Exam platforms such as Physics Wallah, Adda247 and Oliveboard prepare students for competitive exams with recorded lectures, live classes and mock tests. Check that the course follows the latest exam pattern and syllabus, since exams change.

Mock tests under real timing conditions are among the most useful parts of any exam course.

Online degrees and professional programs

Some platforms offer full online degrees and longer professional programs with universities, costing far more than single courses. Check whether the degree is the same as the on campus version, how it is accredited and whether employers in your field recognize it.

Staying motivated

Set a fixed weekly time for study, and break the course into small goals. Courses with deadlines, peer groups or live sessions tend to have higher completion rates than fully self paced ones.

Refund policies

Udemy offers refunds within 30 days for most courses, subject to its policy, and many subscriptions have free trials. Check the refund window before buying, and cancel trials you do not plan to continue.

Creating and selling your own course

Platforms such as Teachable let experts build and sell their own courses under their own brand. Compare monthly fees with transaction fees, since the cheapest plan can cost more once sales grow.

Learning for children

Kids' platforms such as BrightChamps teach coding, maths and financial literacy through live classes. Look for a free trial class and check the teacher to student ratio.

Financial aid and free options

Coursera offers financial aid for many courses to learners who cannot afford the fee, and edX has had similar assistance programs. Libraries in some countries also give members free access to learning platforms, so check yours before paying.

When courses go on sale

Course platforms run big sales around New Year, back to school season and Black Friday. Annual subscriptions are often discounted most heavily then.

Making a course coupon go further

Coupons usually apply to the first purchase or the first year of a subscription. Choose an annual plan only if you will study regularly, since an unused subscription is no saving at all.
